Tottenham Hotspur had a tough start to the 2016-17 season, as they drew away to Everton in the season opener. The side clearly lacked the desire they possessed last season, and that was the central reason they failed to deliver what was expected. This result means Mauricio Pochettino needs to work industriously if they really tend to go for the title this season.
Talking about the transfers, the manager has only made two signings this summer and the result might force him to add more depth to the squad as the Champions League fixtures are also waiting at the door. Besides incoming, the manager is still assessing his current squad and many players, including Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason might be hitting the exit door and beside them, a new name has joined the list.
According to the reports from the Daily Mail, Tottenham defender DeAndre Yedlin is wanted by Derby County and Hull City. The 23-year-old spent his 2015-16 season with the fellow Premier League side Sunderland and made 25 goalless appearances. The source has further stated that both the clubs have made offers in the region of £3.5million for the player, and the right back himself is keen on leaving the club as it is understood that he does not really have a role in Pochettino’s script.
Looking at the current Tottenham squad, the Lilly-Whites will only prefer the 26-year-old English international Kyle Walker for the majority of the games as he is currently hitting his top form. Even in the previous game, the Englishman provided an assist to Erik Lamela’s goal. Besides him, the side have the all confident Kieran Trippier, who is looking forward to mark his presence in the mind of his manager.
The 23-year-old USA international, DeAndre Roselle Yedlin, is primarily a right back, but thanks to his versatility, the player could also operate the game from an attacking area, i.e., as a wide midfielder. There were reports that the 23-year-old might return to Sunderland as he really found himself grooming under their former boss Sam Allardyce, but as the big Sam shifted his job, Yedlin’s possibility of joining the Black Cats was cut down.
Talking about Hull, the Tigers, who kicked off their campaign by beating the Premier League Champions Leicester City, are looking to sign the right back. Yedlin joining Hull will not just improve his form, but might also help him to get featured more often and this is something Tottenham cannot really offer.
Hull City played Ahmed Elmohamady as a right back against Leicester, and the Egyptian was undoubtedly up to the mark, as he combined really well with the Scottish international Robert Snodgrass, who produced the moment of magic to seal City’s win over the Champions. But besides Elmohamady, Hull City does not really have a concrete option for the spot.
As stated earlier, it is understood that Yedlin will always be a third choice right back for the Lilly-Whites, and if he tends to play a more attacking role, the path is even tougher, hence a move to the fellow Premier League side, Hull City, will only make him better and will surely serve his cause.
