Tottenham’s dealings in the transfer window might not be over yet, with just a few more days to go in the summer window, the London club have been linked with Barcelona’s young star Munir El Hadaddi.
The 20-year-old Spanish player is one of the brightest forwards to have come out of the famous La Masia academy, but his playing time has been limited in the past two seasons as he has only made a total of 42 appearances for the La Liga side.
It is believed that the forward wants regular football and with the trio of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi coming back together (after Neymar’s heroics in the Olympics), Munir could be willing to move away from the Nou Camp.
The Spaniard is a tricky player blessed with a lot of pace and his ability to play out wide, while also playing in a central position does make him a great option to have on the bench or even start for Spurs.
This might remind people a lot about another Barcelona player making the move to London, Giovanni Dos Santos. The Mexican did start his career brightly at Tottenham but couldn’t really cement a place in his side and well, Munir would have a tough job on his hands as well, but under Mauricio Pochettino we have seen many youngsters do extremely well and the Spaniard could be another player who actually gets better at Tottenham.
Munir, being only 20 at the moment, has a lot of ground to cover before he turns into a world class player. He is not the finished article yet and isn’t the strongest in terms of holding defenders off. Though he does have a few neat tricks and flicks about him, playing in the Premier League is a different experience altogether and the Spaniard would have to bulk up.
He is a good passer of the ball and his movement is excellent as well, even Luis Enrique had stated that Munir’s effort on the pitch is second to none but there could be a major stumbling block and that comes with the new way of doing business with Barcelona.
The Catalan club reportedly want around €15 million for Munir but will include a “buy-back” clause, something they have used in great effect to bring in Denis Suarez from Villarreal. The fee to bring Munir is rather cheap, when compared to the lavish sums being spent in the transfer market, but Spurs might be wary of setting a fee for the 20-year-old to go back to Barca even before he has kicked one ball and the Spaniard could end up being worth much more than what Barcelona decide.
Either way, Munir is a talent and it would be a great deal for Spurs to capture the player, if they can negotiate with Barcelona and exclude that buy-back deal.
