The Argentine architect has finally crafted the White Hart Lane outfit Tottenham Hotspur in a fine fashion as he completed some amazing last minute deals yesterday. It seemed like the team was going to battle with the same squad, and of course the two new signings, but Pochettino completed the much-awaited deal of Marseille’s 21-year-old attacking midfielder Kevin-N’Koudou, who was spotted training with the Lilly-Whites for the past one week after agreeing to the personal terms.
In order to bring the young Frenchman into the squad, the manager let his 22-year-old winger Clinton N’Jie leave on loan to join Olympic Marseille on a season-long loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
On the other hand, Pochettino brought in Moussa Sissoko from Championship side Newcastle United for a fee of around £30m. The 27-year-old midfielder signed a five-year-deal with the club and went on to say:
“Very happy to join Spurs for the next five years!”
Sissoko may have arrived with a huge price tag on his shoulder, but it is safe to say that he will have to earn his way into the starting lineup because let’s face it, the existing players are well capable of fighting for the spot, hence, the route is tough, but thanks to a participation in the Champions League, every player will get his lion’s share of time on the pitch.
So how will the manager utilize this French talent in the midfield?
Well, a 4-2-3-1 formation is what we expect for the 2016-17 season as well and starting from the post, the manager will surely use Sissoko’s countryman Hugo Lloris, who is currently on the sidelines due to his injury.
Then on the defence, the fullback position will be fulfilled by the English duo Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, who had a great time last season and will be looking forward to replicating the same, and then the Belgian pair of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen will work as the central defenders. So the pack is complete and for now, we will skip the holding pair and will jump off to the attacking trio.
The Argentine speedster Erik Lamela has started his Premier League season with a stylish fashion as he already has one goal and one assist to his name, hence, he will be a sure starter for the team. Furthermore, on the parallel flank, the manager can utilize the Denmark professional Christian Eriksen. Although the 24-year-old hasn’t started his campaign brightly, he has been an important figure for the team and he will be for the rest of the season. Or the new arrival Kevin-N’Koudou can also make his way half-way through the course.
The attacking midfield will be an issue for the manager as Dele Alli has really looked dull, while Janssen has grabbed every opportunity that he has got. For the starters, the manager can go with Alli and then somewhere in the half way during the game; he can introduce Janssen to provide a different flair.
Now coming on to the central area of the park, the manager has four options, namely, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko. Dembele is serving his ban, and so far, the manager has used Dier and Wanyama and the Kenyan has looked really strong at times, hence, it is safe to say that eventually, he will cement his place in Pochettino’s plan, but the manager might have to shift him deeper if Sissoko is to make an appearance.
The Frenchman can line up with the Kenyan sensation and as Wanyama will be guiding the back four, Sissoko can launch himself forward at times and can showcase his tenacity to haunt the opponents.
So this is it, we believe that Pochettino can utilize the Frenchman with these two men, as this will be the most effective pair.
