Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

So three signings made huh! Pochettino ended the transfer window on a great note as he agreed three wonderful deals, namely, the signing of Moussa Sissoko from Championship side Newcastle United, Kevin NKoudou from Marseille and the loan signature of Pau Lopez from La Liga outfit Espanyol.

The manager started his window by signing the former Southampton man Victor Wanyama to provide a much-needed backup for the midfield, then went on to sign the Dutch sensation Vincent Janssen to strengthen the attacking force.

To be honest, this had to be done because the side recently sold midfielder Ryan Mason to Hull City and winger Nacer Chadli to West Brom and hence, the void was to be filled.

With these two players gone, the manager has brought in the best possible cover for the spot and has also included another goalkeeper in form of Pau Lopez. Well, this too had to be done as their 21-year-old shot-stopper Luke McGee has  joined League One side Peterborough United on loan until January, so all the transfers, for us, are perfectly justified.

Well, right at this very moment, we believe that even though Spurs had an average start to their new campaign, they could still go out to challenge for the title and the reason being; their strong midfield. Here are the three reasons, why they have one of the best midfield in the League:

  1. Dynamic and Current Form-

wanyama1

This is no secret that all the midfielders are enjoying a top form recently. Starting from the holding midfield, both Dier and Wanyama have started their season really well. Dier, though, has looked a little dizzy at times, but practically, he hasn’t made any big mistake, while on the other hand, Wanyama, who was eagerly waiting for his move to Tottenham, has been a real beast from the beginning. Even during the pre-season, he showed his class and went on to do the same in the Premier League.

Furthermore, the other midfielders too have been really classy. Dembele will be returning from his ban, while Sissoko will be eager to make his mark and besides that, the attacking midfield is pretty strong as well. Eriksen and Alli haven’t showed their full potential till date, but looking at their style and structure, it is safe to say that the best is not so far.

  1. The Double “Moussa” Power-

sissoko

As mentioned earlier, their Belgian midfielder Moussa Dembele is yet to mark a return, but as soon as he comes, the manager will be suffering a severe headache in terms of selection. The Argentine used the English-Belgian pair last time out and it worked out really well, but the inclusion of Wanyama and now Sissoko has set the bar up high.

Talking particularly, both the players (Dembele and Sissoko) are known for their rigid, yet perfect techniques. Both possess a strength that not everyone can have and that is why they are the important prospects for the team. The manager can even work with these two at times as the Belgian can sit at the back playing a deeper role, while the Frenchman can assert his authority while launching himself forward. All-in-all, this will be an interesting pair to watch.

  1. A perfect attacking-defending midfield combination-

Unlike other clubs, the White Hart Lane outfit have a perfectly balanced midfield, talking in terms of attacking and defending. The players like Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are well capable of providing the back line a much-needed cover, while the others, namely, Lamela, Alli and Dembele possess the natural attacking flair.

According to the study by CIES Football Observatory, back in May 2016, Mousa Dembele was the best box-to-box midfielder in Europe and he was ranked above Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi and Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, while his Spurs teammate Dele Alli finished fourth. The results were solely based on rigour, recovery, distribution, take-ons, chances created and shooting. So now it is safe to say that a perfectly balanced midfield is what Tottenham have.
