The transfer window has been concluded and almost every Premier League team has acquired what they have wished for. The spending, this term, broke the all-time record as the clubs crossed the benchmark of 1 billion (in spending). Talking particularly, just when it was thought that Tottenham will have to settle down with just two signings, the manager, at the very last moment, acquired the signature of three players.

Marseille striker Kevin N’Koudou arrived and the shot-stopper from La Liga, Pau Lopez, also joined. Then came the whopping French midfielder, Moussa Sissoko, from the Championship side Newcastle United. This surely has excited the fans, but there is a drama going on the backstage regarding the contract extension of their priced possession Christian Eriksen.

The former Ajax man, a few months back, denied to renew the contract, and now according to the reports from the Guardian, Mauricio Pochettino has stepped onto the negotiation to complete the deal. The same source has stated that the player is now close to signing a new four-year deal at White Hart Lane, worth around £70,000-a-week, which will keep him at Tottenham until 2020.

Eriksen currently earns around £35,000-a-week while Hugo Lloris, Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembélé are all paid around double of that figure. Further, it has been reported that the personal terms have been agreed, while the paperwork is now the only thing remaining. Well, that surely is a great news, but many believe that Eriksen isn’t too pleased with his role at the club.

Many say that he wants a more central role rather than a wide one, and maybe this was one of the reasons he delayed the process. Whatever it is, we believe that he is an important player for the Lilly-Whites and even though they have signed a couple of attacking players, his spot will remain intact.

The 24-year-old started his new season very roughly as he looks nowhere near his best and things went worst when he was substituted in the half-time against Crystal Palace and his recent penalty miss against Armenia. Surely, there is something lurking in his head, but that needs to be sorted out because he is one of the most important players for the squad.

Since his arrival at the club, the Danish international has been a regular fit for the squad. In his debut season, he made 25 appearances and in the 2014-15 season, he didn’t miss a single Premier League for the side scoring 10 goals and in the following season, he scored 6 goals and went on to assist 13 more.

The Dane is a perfect playmaker for the Lilly-Whites and is getting equally praised for this. The back-room problems will be always there, but he needs to understand his importance. The 24-year-old has all the time in the world to achieve that “Legendary” stature, which is now a rare sight in modern football.

The 24-year-old is unarguably the best technical player in this young Tottenham squad and it is safe to say that he is the driving force behind almost every attack. The Dane needs to put his head down and concentrate on the game rather than giving importance to other flimsy issues.
