A new season for Tottenham and they seem to have taken off from where they ended last time around. The Lilywhites are unbeaten in the Premier League and have eight points from their four matches.
While they still are yet to click into top gear, Spurs have looked good in patches during the season. They did lose their first Champions League tie of the season but that can be attributed to nerves of playing at Wembley.
All in all, there has been one player that has stood out for the London club and it is not an attacker this time around. Kyle Walker might not have been the player that most expected to shine this early in the season but the defender is on the right track.
The 26-year-old does have the highest rating from Whoscored.com for any Spurs player to have taken part in the four Premier League games so far and for good measure too. The Englishman already has a couple of assists to his name but it is also his stellar defensive work that has seen him become one of the best right-backs in the league.
Walker also has one of the higher passing percentages in the team with a pretty decent 74.4% and also comes in with a couple of tackles on average per game. Walker chipped with a decent number of interceptions and clearances in his four games as well, though he is not the leader in any of those attributes this season.
That highlights his all-around ability to perform for the side. It isn’t just one aspect of his game we are talking about these days. Walker has been constantly bombing into the attack as well and averages one key pass per game, which is a pretty good number for a defender. He also has 1.5 dribbles per game, again a decent enough number for the 26-year-old.
Walker also has 3.3 long balls per game and that highlights how important he has become for the Tottenham side as they look to attack more from the back. Tottenham have often been praised for their attack and fluid playing style but at least at the start of this season it is Walker that has been their best player so far.
He does seem to have taken up the Mauricio Pochettino style of play to another level this season and certainly is a player to keep an eye on for the rest of the season.
