Tottenham have been eyeing the signing of several talented youngsters from the lower leagues. Chief scout David Pleat has been spotted at various lower league matches, and there is every possibility that the club could pull off another Dele Alli. The 20-year-old England sensation is just one of the numerous successes that the club has had when signing players from the lower leagues. The latest to be linked with Spurs are Fulham’s Steven Sessegnon and Ryan Sessegnon. The two brothers have been hailed as great talents in the Fulham squad, and it has not gone unnoticed in the Premier League.
With struggling to get back into the top division, the club may very well be forced to settle their best players as the parachute payment dries out. HITC claims that Spurs are very keen on the two players, who play in defence, as they have already started making their presence in the club’s first team. Ryan Sessegnon is seen as the more talented of the two, and he has already represented England at various youth team levels. Despite being a defender, Ryan has scored two goals in just four games and would be considered as a major set piece threat.
As with every other top English talent, Spurs will not have an easy ride when it comes to signing the two brothers. It was previously reported by Daily Mirror that Tottenham were expected to complete the signing of the 16-year old in January ahead of Liverpool and other Premier League rivals. Spurs, though, have the advantage of being able to offer regular first-team football even if they are young. The impressive track record of the North London outfit is even better than their neighbours and archrivals Arsenal, who have started going after expensive names of late.
One of the strongest hints that they will leave Craven Cottage is the plethora of names who have gone down a similar route in the past. Fulham have had some talented players like Mousa Dembele, Emerson Hyndman, and Patrick Roberts fail to stay at the club, as they saw an opportunity of going elsewhere. There is a very good possibility that the Sessegnon brothers could also follow the same route. Spurs are reportedly considering the possibility of tempting Fulham with a good transfer fee coupled with the possibility to have both players at the club until the end of the campaign.
Ryan plays at left back and scouts feel that he could become the next Gareth Bale with his ability to join the attack more profound than his defensive abilities. Even though he is still not 18, Ryan Sessegnon has already contributed one assist and two goals from left back. He has also become the youngest scorer in the Championship following the goal against Leeds.
