Last season’s third place finish, left a lot of fans frustrated, given that until the final few weeks, Tottenham were right up there competing for the title. The slump in the final four games not only ended their title ambitions but also saw them finish below their North London rivals Arsenal. The summer started off slowly but by the time the transfer window slam shut, Pochettino had brought quality players like Vincent Janssen, Victor Wanyama, and Moussa Sissoko. Spurs are still unbeaten in the league, and prior to the international break, they secured an excellent two-nil victory over the league leaders Manchester City.
Tottenham are finally realizing how good they are. They are so strong physically and, probably for the first time, mentally strong as well. However, with added pressure of the Champions League this season, fatigue is inevitably going to affect the squad, therefore it is important Pochettino goes out and buys suitable cover players, who can bring energy to the squad during those final few months.
So here are three players Tottenham should look to sign in the January transfer window:
Max Meyer
It was reported quite extensively in the summer that Tottenham were chasing the Schalke starlet, however, nothing meaningful came up. But the failed negotiations in the summer could act as a stepping stone for a proper pursuit of Meyer in the January transfer window. The 20-year-old midfielder was chased by a host of Premier League clubs in the summer including Liverpool after he revealed his desire to play in the English league. Although it won’t be easy to get him, as he is a regular starter in Germany, something which Pochettino can’t guarantee given the vast array of talent in his squad. His close control and dribbling abilities are so good that the media has dubbed him as the ‘German Messi’. If he does make the move, he will add some serious quality and energy to the Spurs squad.
Isco
Another player who was linked heavily with Tottenham this summer, however, nothing significant materialized. One thing is clear that if the offer is right, Isco won’t shy away from moving away to England. The Spanish attacker has endured a frustrating few months at Real Madrid, as the opportunities have been hard to come by and whenever he has got a chance, his performance has been way below par. He understands how important game time for him is at this stage of career, therefore a move to White Hart Lane might just prove to be sensible for him.
Santi Mina
Although Tottenham seems to be doing well on the goal scoring front, they would not want to pass on an opportunity to sign a young talented attacker. Mina has been done a wonderful job at Valencia, even though the team has let him down on numerous occasions. By the next summer transfer window, chances are Spurs will need to battle with other top clubs to get the 20-year-old. Mina has already scored twice this season and would relish a chance to join a top Premier League club, therefore it a must that Tottenham do everything in their power to get him.
