Tottenham Hotspur traveled to the Bay Arena last night to play the third game of the Champions League against the in-form German heavyweights, Bayer Leverkusen, and the hard-fought battle ended in a goalless draw.
Spurs entered the field on the back of a victory over CSKA Moscow, while their counterparts stepped up in a hope to get their first victory in the competition. It was Spurs who started the game brightly and were unlucky as Vincent Janssen’s goal was ruled out for offside.
The Londoners were very much at home in the first half of the game, but Erik Lamela had his nervous moments in the night. The Argentine was booked early in the game and Tottenham fans were quite rightly furious about his challenge as he could have got his marching orders. So here is how the fans exploded:
Lamela birdbrain #THFC

I’d get Lamela off now not in it & likely to have another birdbrain moment before the end #THFC

Lamela hasn’t even got off the blocks. Sloppy in giving the ball away tonight! Get Sissoko on & get some directness #THFC

While Lamela had an off day, the man who was guarding the post, earned a lot of praise for his save that denied the former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
The Germans took the reins of the game in the second half and came very close to breaking the deadlock, as a fine ball was played into the danger area for Hernandez. The Mexican tried to tap the ball from a low cross into the net but saw his shot saved by Lloris, who clawed it away with a wonderful reflex.
The goal-line technology was used to confirm the decision and the result came rightly in favour of the Lilly-Whites. That really was a close call and here is how the fans reacted on twitter:
Wow, that is an incredible save #THFC #COYS
