No doubt the race to win the Premier League this season is keenly contested among the top clubs and Tottenham has been considered for the second season running as one of the favourites to lift They haven’t won the league title since 1961.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are other clubs considered favourites to claim the Premier League title.

Tottenham Hotspur is a club that has been able, against all odds, to translate from being a mid-table club to a top four prospect and now a title contender. The London club had their foray into the Champions League competition for the first time in many years in 2010 under Harry Redknapp.

But afterwards, they were relegated to the Europa league for five consecutive seasons and made a return to the Champions League this season courtesy of their third place finish last season.

The Premier League looked theirs to lose for a better part of last season but ended up finishing third behind London rival Arsenal whom they had striven to leapfrog into the second position when winning the title later looked impossible.

However, Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem deterred by that but rather he saw it as a motivation factor to spurn on his side and go for it again this season.

Still, the only club to be defeated in the league this season (winning five and drawing four)which include the victory over Manchester City and a hard-fought draw against Liverpool, football pundits believed Spurs are genuine contenders and have the credentials to remain competitive. Their competitive strength will further be tested by Chelsea and Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino has transformed Tottenham defence to one of the best in the league and has brought out the best in his players. TobyAlderweireld has been the best defender in the Premier League for two seasons and Dele Alli has also become a regular for England courtesy of his exploit for the club while Son Heung-Min has equally become a thorn in the flesh of their opponents.

Being consistent will go a long way in assisting Tottenham to realize their goal provided their involvement in the champions league will not take its toll on the team in pushing for the league title.
