Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino might still be smarting from the 1-1 draw against Leicester at the weekend and with the Champions League resuming this week for the side, the Argentine will also have to do without his star striker Harry Kane.

Pochettino was speaking to the Daily Telegraph and he stated that Kane would not start against Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night.

Kane has been missing from the Tottenham side since he picked up an injury against Sunderland and the side have struggled for goals. Vincent Janssen did score in the draw against Leicester City but the Lilywhites need more firepower if they are to do well this season.

Pochettino was quoted as saying:

“He is 50-50. Maybe on Monday he can be in the group. We will assess him and see if he is available to be selected, but he will not be involved in the starting 11.”

That comment from the manager is still good news for the Spurs fans as Kane could still be part of the team that faces the German club.

A big miss at the club this season

Kane has scored a couple of goals this season but Tottenham have looked bereft of ideas regarding their strikers. While the likes of Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min have done their bit in the attack, the lack of a genuine goal scorer is still hurting the London side.

Vincent Janssen still doesn’t seem to be sharp enough to play as the lead striker for Spurs. The Dutchman might be putting in the miles for Pochettino but the only result that many would look for are the goals.

Kane was the main man for Tottenham last season and more questions are being asked about the transfer policy of Pochettino. The fee spent on Moussa Sissoko and Janssen certainly raise eyebrows and the pair haven’t performed all that well this season.

The only bit of good news coming out this week seems to be the fact that Kane is making a comeback to the side. The London side really needs his sharpness in front and also his movement is second to none for Mauricio Pochettino.

Fans have to give him time as any player coming back from injury does need to get back into the groove and that will be the same case for Kane. The Englishman hasn’t started the season on fire and after the injury, he will need to work harder for the side. Janssen still needs time to gel in and if Kane can even play a few minutes against Leverkusen, it will be a morale booster for the side.
