Tottenham are fearing at the possibility of being without defender Ben Davies for the next couple of weeks after an injury suffered in the Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen. The news could not have come at a much worse time for Spurs considering that defender Danny Rose also appears to have suffered an injury that will keep him out of action. Rose has been pulled off from the England squad because of a niggling injury. He is expected to miss both of the England games in this international break.
Against Arsenal during the weekend, Mauricio Pochettino employed a 3-4-3 system and it helped prevent Arsenal to a limited number of chances, which was a major feat considering that the gunners have been in excellent form since the start of the campaign. One of the crucial elements that allowed Pochettino to play the system is the presence of Rose and Kyle Walker. The attack minded fullbacks can also be deployed as wingbacks in the system but without compromising on the team’s defensive strength.
Even though Rose’s injury has not been confirmed yet, he is clearly having some sort of an issue that prevents him from being part of the England setup in this international break. Tottenham remain confident that the issue is not something that will hurt them immediately, as Rose still has almost two weeks to recover. League action resumes for Spurs with a home match against West Ham immediately followed by a quick trip to France to take on Monaco in the Champions League. A key fixture for the team, though, will be the away match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a few days later. According to the Express, Davies said:
“It’s not too good at the moment, I’ve just got to get ready. It will be a good couple of weeks after this one to get back fit, so I’ve just got to work hard.”
Davies has just been ruled out of both these games with the injury. Hence, Tottenham need to have Rose back as soon as possible. The club do have the option of Eric Dier potentially filling in this role, but these will be not optimal when it comes to taking on inform teams in key games. Failure to win the last seven matches in all competitions is threatening to destroy Tottenham’s objectives for the campaign. The team are in danger of dropping into the Europa League while they have fallen five points behind table leaders Liverpool following the latest round of results.
Another injury concern for Spurs has been Dele Alli, who missed the game against Arsenal. Mauricio Pochettino, though, confirmed prior to the Arsenal game that Alli should not be out of the first team for long. Spurs have yet to welcome Toby Alderweireld back from an injury suffered a few weeks ago. The Belgian has not played for Spurs since the 1-1 draw against West Brom in the middle of October.
