Harry Kane and Tottenham have reportedly put aside contract talks for the time being, and the development has alerted clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea, according to the reports from the Sun. Kane is regarded as one of the hottest properties in English football. The 23-year-old is on a contract worth around £60,000 per week, but more importantly, his contract still has four years to run. Kane’s camp is thought to have been disappointed with the club making Moussa Sissoko as the highest-paid player at the club.
The summer signing from Newcastle United reportedly earns £95,000 per week. Sensing his importance to Tottenham, Kane is thought to have made it clear that he wants to be on par with his England striker partners or at least move level with Sissoko in terms of wages.
After winning the Golden Boot last season and playing a decisive role in the club’s third place finish, Kane would have reasons to be aggrieved with his latest situations. Chairman Daniel Levy, though, is unlikely to place a plot of concern into the situation. Regarded as one of the hardest negotiators in the game, Levy is likely to play hardball like he has done with numerous of the Spurs players in the past. Kane is not helped by the fact that he still has just under four years left on his contract.
Kane is yet to hit the heights of last season after having struggled with injuries and a poor start to the season. The 23-year-old just proved his importance to Spurs in the recent game against Arsenal. Despite starting his first match after almost 2 months, Kane managed to find the equaliser against the gunners before being taken off after 73 minutes. He was on the bench during England’s 3-0 win over Scotland in the World Cup 2018 qualification game. England, though, have decided to send him back to Spurs earlier than scheduled in order to help his rehabilitation.
The contract is highly likely to be discussed once the season comes to a close. Meanwhile, clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea will be alerted to the situation. Both clubs are thought to be huge fans of the player. Kane could be viewed as a perfect replacement for Wayne Rooney. Chelsea, though, may not be as interested as United given how Diego Costa has been performing of late. However, they have had a long-standing interest in the 23-year-old England forward.
In the past, Daniel Levy has not been concerned about top players carrying on with just over two years left on their contracts. He will have reasons to be relaxed about Kane’s situation.
