Tottenham were showing serious interest in Galatasaray winger Bruma. There was a significant chance of signing the contract rebel when the January transfer window opened. Now, though, it seems that Bruma has performed a U-turn and signed a new contract with the Turkish club according to the reports from the Turkish outlet, Yenicag Gazetesi. The Portuguese winger has been one of the best performing players at Galatasaray and he has been with the Turkish club since 2013 and he has been valued at around £25 million.

Spurs were not the only club showing interest in the 22-year-old, as the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United were also keen to take advantage of the contract situation.

The player’s existing contract runs out in the summer of 2018, thus making him extremely vulnerable to a move for a low transfer fee. However, new reports in Turkey claim that the player has made a U-turn by signing a new contract with Galatasaray. As part of this new deal, his release clause now goes up to £34 million while he will also receive a significant increase in wages.

It is expected to keep Bruma is happy for the time being. No official announcement regarding the contract has come just yet, but it is expected to be made before the January transfer window.

Spurs would be extremely disappointed with this development, as they have been quite keen on the player. Aksam reported that the scouts from the North London outfit were in attendance on six occasions to watch the player. He was also being quite closely watched by club officials during the international break. Even though he has not made his debut for the Portuguese senior team just yet, Bruma has appeared in every stage of the youth team level for Portugal.

After having scored four goals and set up three more for his teammates in just 10 appearances this season, Bruma is certainly starting to come good. At just 22, he would be a capable replacement for the likes of Vincent Janssen, who has been hugely disappointing. Even though he does not play as a striker, Bruma is someone who can be moulded into the role. He predominantly plays on the left side for a Galatasaray, but the club have used him in the centre or on the right side of a front three when the situation demands.

Even though he has been at Galatasaray since 2013, there have also been two loan spells during the period. The 2014 season saw him go out on loan to Gaziantepspor, while the 2015-16 season saw him get more game time came under his belt at the Real Sociedad. He has been a regular with Galatasaray since the start of the season.

Tottenham are likely to wait for the official announcement before ending their transfer interest once and for all.
