Harry Kane has dismissed suggestions that he wants to leave the club after recent contract talks were put on hold by Chairman Daniel Levy. Despite signing a new contract only back in February, Kane is keen on signing a deal on fresh terms. After having managed to finish the last campaign as the league’s top scorer, Kane is a player in strong demand. Manchester United have been linked with the striker for quite a while, and José Mourinho would jump at the opportunity to sign the player as a replacement for Wayne Rooney.
Kane is reportedly earning around £65,000 per week, but he is said to have been disappointed with the club offering £95,000 per week to midfielder Moussa Sissoko. The England international is keen on becoming the club’s top earner once again, but Levy is not ready to give up on the club’s policy of not going over £100,000 per week in terms of wages. The chairman, though, is ready to give substantial increment in the form of performance-related bonuses.
It has reportedly led to contract talks being put on hold at least until the summer. Since Kane has a contract until the summer of 2021, the club are extremely relaxed on the situation. In the past, Levy has not worried about making top stars unhappy as demonstrated by his hard stance with the likes of Luka Modric and Dimitar Berbatov. Just when it seemed that Kane was heading towards a similar situation, the striker has come out to clarify rumours surrounding his future at White Hart Lane. According to Sky Sports, he said:
“I’m happy at the club. A lot of people are going to speculate about contracts but I am happy – you saw me out there (on Saturday).
“We are in talks and I’m sure we will get something sorted. I’m not panicking and I’m not demanding anything as I’ve read in the paper.
“We’re having a conversation and I have no doubts that we will get it sorted. As I say, I want to be here for a long time and I am sure I will be.”
There were certainly no signs of unhappiness from the player when he stepped onto the field against West Ham on Sunday. Just as he helped Spurs get a 1-1 draw against arch rivals Arsenal in the recent North London derby, Kane scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game against West Ham to secure a 3-2 win. His importance to the club was once again demonstrated in the most emphatic manner possible.
Kane has specifically gone on to state that there is no truth in the rumours that he has placed certain demands of the club. The 23-year-old has scored 69 goals in just 139 appearances for the club. He finished last season with 23 league goals, which helped him secure the Golden Boot award along with helping the club manage a third-place finish in the league. The striker says that the speculation linking him with other clubs is just a sign that he is doing extremely well.
Unlike players like Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, and Dimitar Berbatov who all moved on to other clubs, Spurs fans will be hoping that Kane, who came through the ranks at the club, will stay for a long time.
