Tottenham, along with Liverpool, have been linked with a move for Ghanaian rising star Franck Kessie, who plays for Atalanta in the Serie A. And it seems the 20-year-old has also caught the attention of another top club in Europe.
Calciomercato now claims (h/t Le10sport) that the 20-year-old is a target for Barcelona. The Spanish giants are known for signing the players that they want and it is a bit of a surprise that the La Liga club wants to sign the youngster up.
Kessie has had a breakout season so far for the Italian side and has scored seven goals in the Serie A already. The club have seen that there is a lot of interest, not only from Tottenham but also from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea and now are seemingly intent of making as much money as they can from the deal.
With Barcelona, also rumoured to be interested in the signing of the player, it won’t be a surprise to see that a bidding war amongst the sides involved. Atalanta are in the driving seat as they can wait and watch and sell to the highest bidder.
Tottenham looking to bring in more talent to the side
Spurs haven’t had the best of times when it comes to signing players and a few of them are yet to hit the high notes this season. Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko are just a couple of players who have struggled after making big money moves this season.
Kessie would join another set of big money moves as the Italian side are waiting for the offers to come in. The Italian outlet also reports that Spurs are willing to spill out €23 million for the highly rated African player.
The 20-year-old hasn’t spoken out about his future and seems to be concentrating on his football but Tottenham also face competition from another side in the Premier League. Chelsea, their bitter rivals, are also in the running for the signature of Kessie.
Conte does know the Italian league pretty well and could use his sources to gather more information about Kessie. Tottenham need to be careful of not overpaying for a player that still has a lot to learn and fulfill his potential. Spurs have also been linked with a move for Ross Barkley, featuring a swap deal with Moussa Sissoko and that does seem to be a better option than signing Kessie.
