Italian outlet Calcio Mercato have reported that Manchester United are looking to tempt Harry Kane away from White Hart Lane with a gargantuan £80 million bid.
The Manchester club did take a considerable amount of risk when securing the services of 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic in summer yet the Swedish superstar has rammed his critics with 13 league goals out of 19 appearances. Besides being an auto-pilot scorer, he has also contributed 3 assists so far.
While the former PSG man continues to spearhead the side with class, the Red Devils will be mulling over a replacement for him. Besides the age factor, given the mammoth wages on his head, the club are walking a tightrope if his form hits the opposite end of the scale. His closest replacements within the ranks are Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial but the duo needs a little more polishing to lead the line on their own.
A host of strikers have understandably been bandied with Manchester United and Harry Kane has joined the bandwagon. Not a surprise as the England international is not far behind Zlatan, with 10 goals and two assists this season, an impressive feat as he did miss 5 games with an injury. Last time out, he bagged a brace when the north Londoners edged past Watford 4-1. Playing some of the best football of his career in recent years, losing him would be a huge blow for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lilywhites are one of the flag-bearers in recent times to cash in key stars like Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić and struggled to replace them. When things are finally looking to settle down, losing their star striker would paddle their progress backwards right away. Despite the whopping amount of money to fill their coffer, it would be a hindrance than a help as they have not received much merit in spending money on replacements.
On the other hand, the 23-year old did sign a contract extension with the north London club not long ago, along with other pivotal players and will look to prolong his purple patch to help his side remain in the top four.
The likelihood of the deal to go through is pretty slim yet if it does happen, the prolific forward will face the glare of the cameras as the most expensive English player of all time. Before loosening the purse strings, the management will be more than happy to rely on Zlatan, who with every passing week, just looks more fit and focused.
Next up Spurs welcome table-toppers Chelsea to White Hart Lane and Kane and Co. will be looking to continue their rich vein of form and most importantly, put end to their opponent’s 13 matches winning streak.
