Tottenham seems to be emerging as the real contenders for Chelsea in the Premier League title race after winning the last six matches without exception. Spurs may be seven points behind leaders Chelsea, but striker Harry Kane reckons that Spurs have the form necessary to take on the blues. Spurs struggled big time during the months of October and November and almost looked like dropping out of contention for the top four. Since the 1-0 loss against Manchester United at the start of December, they have been on a roll.

Aided by players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli, they have moved into the second spot after a brilliant 4-0 win over West Brom during the weekend. The duo has been in brilliant form in the last month. Dele Alli has seven goals in his last six matches, while Kane scored a brilliant hat-trick against West Brom to take his league tally to 13 goals. Despite having missed almost 8 matches this season through injury alone, Kane now finds himself in a position to defend the title of the top scorer in the Premier league, which he won last season. Kane trailers top scorers Diego Costa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Alexis Sanchez by just one goal.

As quoted by FourFourTwo, Kane said:

“Definitely [we can win the league], we came very close last year, that was a great experience to be part of.

“I think we have got better as a team and grown as a team, and we can hopefully use that experience to help us this year. We are on great form, high on confidence, so if we continue that there is no reason why we cannot win it.”

Spurs will certainly take a lot of confidence from being the team to end Chelsea’s incredible 13 match winning run, which began in September. A 2-0 win over the blues at White Hart Lane finally announced Spurs as the proper title challengers. They have been able to move ahead of Liverpool in the league title race, as the Reds dropped two points against Manchester United on Sunday. Armed with players like Kane and Ali, Spurs will certainly be a force to contend with.

However, the ability of the team to cope without these big-name players has already been questioned before and is likely to be done once again. Manager Mauricio Pochettino has so far been silent about his activity in January, as Spurs have been rather quiet. If the club are lucky with regard to injuries, Spurs may be able to keep this run going. A big test awaits the club this weekend when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad stadium. It will be against an opposition which has lost 4-0 in the previous match.

After having previously beaten Pep Guardiola’s team at white Hart Lane, Spurs will be quietly confident about success. Kane was a major factor in the club almost winning the league title last season. Now, it looks like the England international is on the verge of helping make amendments for finishing third in the league last season.
