Players valuation has always been on the rise and it may not be long before the world’s first £100 million player takes centre stage. Paul Pogba is currently the world’s most expensive transfer after having moved from Juventus to Manchester United for an astonishing £89 million. Even though it may have seen like an absurd amount of money, manager Jose Mourinho argued that the Frenchman was going to be of great service to United for more than a decade.
Tottenham stars like Harry Kane and Dele Alli have been linked with a £50 million move to Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively. Tottenham have not even thought about entertaining any talk, as it falls well short of the club’s valuation. Now, a study performed by CIES Football Observatory has placed a valuation of £122 million on Harry Kane and a remarkable £97 million on Dele Alli (h/t the Sun). They are two of the players in the top 10, which also features Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Pogba.
Going by such a study, Spurs appear to have been right not to entertain an extravagant offer for the star players. Incidentally, Kane has been valued above Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, and it may seem perplexing initially considering that the latter is widely regarded as the best player in the world. However, the study takes into account several factors like the age of player, the length of his contract, and his performances.
Ronaldo may have recently won the Ballon d’Or award for the fourth time in his career, but he is coming to the end of his career at 31 years of age. He is valued at £111 million, which may be lower than Kane, but it is rather incredible for a player who may have only around three or four years at the top level. Kane, on the other hand, is only 23 and can carry on playing for more than a decade at the very least.
In terms of performances, the England star may have overshadowed the Ronaldo this season. He has been impeccable for Spurs over the last few months – especially since his return from injury – and he recently took his league tally to 13 goals following a hat-trick against West Brom.
Alli is already valued ahead of names like Eden Hazard, Gonzalo Higuain, and Sergio Aguero by a considerable margin. The 20-year-old has also been in brilliant form, as he continues to grow from strength to strength. He already has 10 goals in 18 starts this season, and there are signs that he is just about starting to make a name for himself. If he continues on this vein of improvement, Alli could easily be named as the most valuable player ahead of Neymar, who is currently rated at £217 million.
