Harry Kane seems to be one of the big stars who has bought into the project at Tottenham. A year ago, there were numerous transfer rumours surrounding the England international, largely linking him with a move to Manchester United. However, they have died down quite rapidly even as Kane is slowly inching up as the Premier league’s top scorer this season. The 23-year-old finished as the Golden Boot winner last season. And now, the transfer rumours seem to be heavily focused on midfielder Dele Alli, who has become the latest sensation. If last season from the 20-year-old midfielder was great, this season he has gone to the next level.
As a result, Real Madrid are thought to be actively pursuing the midfielder with the hope of signing him in the summer and making him as their 2017 galactico. In an indirect reference to the rumours surrounding Alli, Kane says that leaving Tottenham at this stage in the club’s history would be extremely bad. He believes that Tottenham are on the verge of much bigger things.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sun), he said:
“I would be surprised if any of my team-mates were to leave now. Something’s going on here, we’re just missing the last step: to win trophies.
“It would be stupid to leave now. We have one of the best managers in the world, perhaps the best. Soon there will be a new stadium. The future is promising.”
He added: “You have to choose whether to take the money, or follow your own ambitions, playing in the best league in the world and winning titles.”
Spurs have been able to make their way up the Premier league and become one of the title challengers without spending much in the transfer market. Most of the players who are doing well at the moment have been either bargain buys or come through the ranks at White Hart Lane. The likes of Harry Kane, Kyle Walker, Dele Alli, and Danny Rose cost little or no money for getting them into the first-team. Yet, they have been the main feature of Spurs in the title race this season. The 2-2 draw with Manchester City last weekend confirmed the club’s status as the main challenges for Chelsea, as Liverpool lost to Swansea.
One of the few transfer rumours surrounding Kane linked with the striker with a move to the Chinese Super League along with Dele Alli. It was rumoured that both players will be receiving an astonishing £800,000 per week in order to join a big bandwagon of players who choose money over trophies. Kane and Alli are yet to win any major honour, and they would rather stay at White Hart Lane and receiving just over £100,000 per week rather than accepting the riches of China at just 23.
The next big challenge for the club would be the away match against Liverpool in the second week of February. The two clubs are separated only by a point, but Spurs face the two north-east clubs – Sunderland and Middlesbrough – before the trip to Anfield.
