Tottenham Keen To Sign Feyenoord Youngster Who May Be Available On A Free Transfer In The Summer Window

Ozancan Kokcu is a youngster who has caught the eye of many clubs across Europe. Currently playing for the Feyenoord under 19 team, Kokcu was brought in from Groningen only in the summer on a free transfer. The Dutch outfit were able to convince Kokcu that his development would be best in their academy, but it seems that Feyenoord could be set for a taste of their own medicine. The Times claim that Tottenham are looking at the possibility of signing Kokcu in the summer when the player will be free to join any club as his contract would have expired.

The player’s agent has spoken with several clubs across European football. However, it is understood that Kokcu and his family are seriously considering the possibility of joining Spurs due to the impeccable reputation that the club have when it comes to developing young players and giving them an opportunity in the first team. Spurs may not have much success with regard to signings from Dutch football in recent times, with Vincent Janssen being one of the high-profile mistakes made by the club. However, that does not seem to prevent Kokcu from considering a move to White Hart Lane.

An attacking midfielder, Kokcu can be moulded into the next Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli. Considering that he is only 18 years old, he is likely to be loaned out initially just like many of the Tottenham youngsters. Players like Danny Rose and Kyle Walker may look like established Tottenham stars, but they spend a considerable amount of time away from the North London outfit in order to improve the game. Playing regular first-team football is important for any youngster. Apart from being an attacking midfielder, Kokcu can also be quite flexible by playing on the wings or even in the hole behind the striker.

Feyenoord have provided Kokcu with sufficient opportunities in the under-19 team. The player has made 14 appearances and scored two goals for the team. However, it seems that the club have not been able to agree to a new contract with the player. As a result, he may leave the club in the next couple of months. Feyenoord, though, will stand to benefit from a training compensation since Tottenham would be signing a player under 23 years of age on a free transfer – if they complete the deal.

Kokcu has already represented the Dutch national team at the under 17 level. He is also eligible to represent Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijan senior team are extremely keen to have the 18-year-old represent them over the Netherlands.
