Tottenham interested in potential deal for Chelsea star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Daniel Levy

Tottenham are close to bringing back Steve Hitchen to the club for the second time, as per the reports from the Daily Mail. Chairman Daniel Levy has made it a priority to bring back Hitchen in order to replace Ian Broomfield. The club are undergoing a major shakeup with regards to the scouting department. Head of recruitment Paul Mitchell is expected to leave the club, as he is on a notice period. Broomfield has already left the club more than a month ago. The shakeup is thought to have been resulted from Daniel Levy not pushing through the bid for Michy Batshuayi, who joined Chelsea in the summer for £32 million.

It is understood that Batshuayi was the original transfer target for Spurs. Unable to get the Belgian international, the club went after Dutch striker Vincent Janssen, who has been a major disappointment at the club. Janssen came in from AZ Alkmaar for £17 million, but he is yet to score from open play this season.

Tottenham have been extremely successful in the transfer market under the eyes of Hitchen. During his first spell at the club, the club brought in Luka Modric from Dinamo Zagreb when he was an unknown in the world of football. It turned out to be one of the best moves for the club, as Modric helped the club reach new heights while also fetching double the return in the transfer market.

Rather than return to the club as the senior head of recruitment, it is believed that Hitchen will be coming back to White Hart Lane just to replace Broomfield. The club are in the process of interviewing potential candidates to replace Mitchell. The upcoming transfer windows are extremely important for the club, as the club could go into a period of financial difficulty due to the construction of the new stadium. The new 60,000 seater stadium will cost the club an incredible £750 million, and it will force the manager to tighten his strings in the transfer market.

In such a scenario, a good recruiting policy is essential to give the manager the edge. Arsenal were able to succeed with Arsene Wenger finding some of the best young talents in the world for a period of 10 years when the club just completed the Emirates stadium. Tottenham may have to go through the same process, and Hitchen’s will be extremely crucial in retaining the club’s competitiveness on the pitch.
