Reports have emerged that Manchester City are planning to sign Tottenham wonderboy Dele Alli in a world record deal. It has been claimed by The Express Sport that the England International is a target for many of Europe’s top clubs and has now fallen under Pep Guardiola’s radar as the Spaniard looks to plan for his second season in England. Alli’s extraordinary rise means that he won’t be available for cheap and Manchester City must break the bank to sign the youngster.
Although spending huge money on a central midfielder might seem ridiculous, Manchester United took the brave decision to spend huge on Paul Pogba, which has set the trend in the transfer market. Clubs are not afraid to spend for players and are splashing out the cash to recruit big names.
Manchester City can never say no to a player who would fall under ‘home-grown’ quota as they had to settle with players like Fabian Delph to fulfil it. Alli would be a great addition to Man City as he is a full England International already at the age of 20.
Alli has appeared 33 times for Tottenham so far this season and has 13 goals and 5 assists to his name. Last season, he scored 10 and assisted 11 for Tottenham, which is remarkable numbers for a 19-year old midfielder.
Manchester City would benefit hugely from signing the English midfielder who has been outstanding for Tottenham.
Tottenham will somehow try to resist the approach, with their ambitions becoming lofty in the past few seasons. They have not been a selling club since Pochettino’s arrival and are expected to remain this way. But a world-record bid would be too hard to reject, given that the player is a central midfielder.
If Tottenham do decide to sell Dele Alli, it would be hard for them to replace a player of such quality. They have failed remarkably in their transfer policy and it would be a huge risk to sell their top player and try to replace him. Dele Alli arrived for a meagre amount of £5 million and it is one of the best pieces of businesses done by the Lilywhites in recent history. They would lose out on a top, top player if they sanction the sale of Alli.
City, on the other hand, would be signing one of the best youngsters in the world currently and can potentially play him with another world-class youngster in Gabriel Jesus, who arrived at The Etihad this season.
The partnership of Dele Alli and Gabriel Jesus looks mouthwatering on paper and it only gives goose bumps to imagine them playing together.
It would be a massive mistake for Spurs to let Alli go and will regret their decision if they sell him.
