Tottenham superstar Harry Kane has revealed that a dressing room discussion between the players helped the team bounce back from back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Gent, and beat Fulham in the FA cup. Tottenham have been struggling in recent times with just 2 wins in the past 6 games before facing Fulham. However, it seems that the Spurs players took the responsibility of sorting things out and responded with a 3-0 victory over fellow London club Fulham in the 5th round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Harry Kane scored a fantastic hat-trick to help his team progress to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, taking his tally to 19 goals in 25 games.
Talking after the Fulham game, Kane was quoted by the Daily Mail saying:
“It was just about bringing the desire back to the team, bringing that hunger back to the team, chasing balls down, running in behind, I think we did that great (against Fulham). So sometimes we need that, we need a reminder of who we are and what we are about. Yes, we had a couple of meetings between us and we were glad to go out and put it right. We have had a difficult week with a difficult couple of games so we wanted to put that right.”
Harry Kane took his Tottenham goal tally to 83 after their previous outing and would be determined to reach 100 goals for the club soon. Given that he is only 23 years old, reaching 100 goals at such a young age would be remarkable for Harry Kane and that would surely mark him as a legend in the making.
Kane also spoke about Tottenham not wanting to face a shock exit from FA Cup, after non-league team Lincoln City FC beat Burnley FC and Millwall beat Leicester.
“There were a few shocks so we didn’t want to be part of that weekend,’ Kane said. “We have got an important game on Thursday at home to Gent – we feel we can turn that one around and we knew if we won this one it would give us more confidence. It was important.”
Tottenham use Wembley for their European fixtures and when he was asked whether that would hand them an advantage if they played there in a cup final, Kane said:
“Yes, 100 per cent. I think that is important. We had a little taste of it in the Champions League – we won our last game there (against CSKA Moscow). We have got another game there Thursday. If we can get a good feeling there, get used to it, play our style of football. Obviously the more games we play there, the better it will be for us. The more used to the surroundings we will be.”
Defender Toby Alderweireld also opened up about some dressing room secrets and what helped Spurs turn things around in their favour.
Alderweireld said, “We talked to each other after the game in the Europa League and said, ‘Yeah, we have to change. We know everybody’s trying but trying to get the good feeling back… one way is to work very hard and try to change as quickly as possible. We showed the desire is there. Everybody knew what we had to do. Go to the next round (of the FA Cup) and on Thursday go to the next round (of the Europa League). Those two games are very important for the future.”
Meanwhile, Belgian International Jan Vertonghen said that Tottenham are as good as Manchester City and Chelsea and insisted that the team deserves a trophy.
Vertonghen said, “Money, you can’t compare it, but I think our team is as strong as theirs. Definitely. We played the (League Cup) final against Chelsea at Wembley a couple of years ago and we want more of that. I won silverware at Ajax and it’s the best thing there is in football. This team deserve a trophy.”
It looks like the spirits are high within the Spurs dressing room and they look motivated to win a trophy this year. Surely, they will not give up so easily, despite suffering a setback in their Europa League encounter.
Expect Tottenham to give it their all, to win a trophy again after their league cup triumph back in 2007/08.
