Monaco have reportedly slapped a £51 million price tag on highly rated young starlet Kylian Mbappe after the striker was linked with Arsenal and Tottenham recently. The price tag seems hefty but the young lad has already drawn comparisons with the legendary Thierry Henry and hence the cost.
Mbappe has been sensational for Monaco this season having scored 12 goals in 26 appearances so far. He has also provided 9 assists and has shown remarkable improvement from his last season’s stats of 1 goal and 2 assists in 14 games.
Earlier, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted that the club have been monitoring Kylian Mbappe and said that the player has similarities to a young Thierry Henry.
Tottenham would benefit so much by signing a sensation like Mbappe as Vincent Janssen has not settled in well in his debut season in England. He was expected to compete with Harry Kane for a spot in the playing XI and has not matched the expectations somehow.
Signing Mbappe would mean that the club may find it difficult to give Janssen playing time. However, with Mbappe also capable of playing on the wings, he would be a really good signing for Mauricio Pochettino.
Mbappe has blistering pace, an amazing ability to dribble and can also spot a pass with ease – thereby making him a complete striker to have in the team. He is also strong physically and is only 18-years old, which means that the boy will grow up to become a man in few years, which would only make him stronger and wiser.
Though Mbappe is insanely talented and could go on to become Tottenham’s own Thierry Henry, a step to England after 2 seasons in France might turn out to be a step too soon for the Frenchman and hence it’d be better if he waits for few more seasons before trying his tricks abroad.
For now, it would be wise for the lad to stay back at home and gain as much playing experience as possible at Monaco as a move to Tottenham or Arsenal would mean competition for places and eventually lesser game time.
Monaco manager Jardim seems to believe in the player and it would be good for Mbappe to stay at his current club and continue to grow before making a big move. But if Pochettino decides that Mbappe will not have a problem adapting to life in England, then there are chances that he might be right as the manager is known for backing youngsters to perform.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham go on and launch a bid for the young starlet.
