Harry Kane Talks About The Title Challenge After Rivals Drop Points

Harry Kane of Tottenham

Kane vs Jagielka

Tottenham striker Harry Kane fired his side to another victory, this time over an impressive Everton side on Sunday. The English striker scored a brace as he took his season tally in the Premier League to 19 goals.

What has been more impressive from the striker has been his form in recent games as he has come up with 14 goals in his last 12 games. And even though the club failed in the Champions League and Europa League, Kane still wants his side to keep going in the Premier League and be the only team that can chase down Chelsea.

As quoted by the Mirror, Kane added that he wants the side to stay ahead of bitter rivals Arsenal and a resurgent Manchester United.

“We are in a good position now, trying to catch Chelsea.

“But it’s important we build a gap between the teams around us as well and with Man United and Arsenal dropping points it was important we capitalise.”

As Chelsea prepare to face West Ham in a London derby, Manchester United dropped points as they were held at home by a plucky Bournemouth side that had been reduced to 10 men. Arsenal also lost to Liverpool and the only other side to have won from the top six was Manchester City.

There have been claims that the Tottenham side is still too young to sustain a challenge for the Premier League title but Kane said that the side has been playing together for a while and even last season was a huge learning for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

“We’ve been playing for a couple of years now.” he said: “So we are getting used to it, knowing each other’s game and all fighting in the same direction.

“We’ve just got to keep that intensity up for the rest of the season.”

Kane set for the Golden Boot again?

Kane is again leading the scoring charts in the Premier League and is a contender to retain his Golden Boot title from last season should he continue scoring at the same rate. The Englishman even added that he will add to his tally every time he plays for the side.

“I feel in great form as a striker. I feel confident I’m going to score goals every time I step out and help my team.

“I want to keep it up until the end of the season, but we’ll see. I’m not one to panic if I stop scoring, as you everyone knows. So I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing, working hard off the ball as well as on it and I’ll get the chances.

“I feel very fresh and very fit in every game, with going out of Europe as well and getting a bit of extra rest. Nobody wants to be injured, but I said I would use it as a positive to refresh the body and now I’m feeling good.”

Tottenham does seem to be in a better position to chase down Chelsea than when they tried to do the same against Leicester last season but the title does seem to be slipping away with every game.

The FA Cup might be a better opportunity of picking up silverware this season than the league and every Spurs fan knows that Kane will have to be on his A-game if Tottenham are to win the cup.
