Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter demanding that the club try their best to bring in Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette in the summer. The Frenchman has been highly linked with an exit from the French club in the summer. Even though he has come through the ranks at Lyon and the club are likely to have Champions League football league season, the 25-year-old is reportedly looking for a new challenge in his career. A number of top clubs from across Europe have been linked for the player, who is valued at around £60 million by his club.

While some may question the need for such an expensive signing, fans witnessed Lacazette at his best in the recent Europa League game against Roma. Facing the Italian club in the first leg of the last 16 round, Lyon dispatched the opposition with a lot of comfort thanks to a goal from Lacazette.

With Lyon leading the game 3-2 going into the final few minutes, Lacazette came up with a spectacular long-range effort in order to provide a decisive two-goal advantage for the French club. It could be crucial for the French side in their efforts to progress into the next round, as they travel to the Stadio Olimpico for the return leg. Lacazette also provided an assist during the game.

Talks about Tottenham signing a new forward have been going around for the last few weeks, as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks increasingly concerned about the lack of alternatives for Harry Kane. The England international is on his way to become the top scorer in England once again, but the need for an effective backup has been quite evident.

Since Tottenham are heavily reliant on the goals from the 23-year-old, losing him through spells of suspension or injuries could be catastrophic in terms of the results – as seen earlier in the season. Vincent Janssen was supposed to fill into this role after coming in from AZ Alkmaar in the summer for around £ 17 million. However, he has been a major disappointment and is likely to leave the club in the summer.

Lacazette may cost a lot of money, but Spurs fans have clearly seen the potential of the 25-year-old. More than just being a backup for Harry Kane, the striker has plenty of potential to even lead the line on his own. Even though a number of clubs are expected to be queueing up for his signature in the summer, Spurs will be able to move ahead in the queue due to their recent relationship with Lyon following the transfer of Hugo Lloris in 2012.

Here’s the screamer Lacazette scored against Roma.
