Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has backed Vincent Janssen to come up good from hereafter he scored against Millwall in his team’s 6-0 thrashing of the lower division side in the quarterfinals of the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.
Janssen came off the bench to score his first open-play goal for Tottenham since joining them and it would have been huge sigh of relief for the player who has been having a torrid time since joining Tottenham in the summer.
Vincent Janssen has scored 5 goals and has provided 3 assists for Spurs this season and was under huge pressure and criticism following his failure to click in his new surroundings. However, this season being his 2nd season in top-flight football, it is understandable for the 22-year old to take some time to adjust in his new club.
It looked as though the move to England came too soon for Janssen and he would never be able to make it at the White Hart Lane. But Spurs boss Pochettino thinks otherwise and has said that Vincent has stepped it up and has started working better.
Pochettino was quoted by The Sun: “I told you that in the last months he stepped up and started to work better. I was happy in the way his performances were on the training ground. In football you need to be ready when you have an opportunity to show you’re quality.
It’s a problem when the player is not ready for different reasons. Now it’s a different case Janssen is working very hard he has a great opportunity to score and he scored – [and] a Son hat-trick – we are very happy.”
It is high time Janssen discovers his goal scoring touch as star man Harry Kane suffered an ankle injury against Millwall and was taken off just 10 minutes into the game.
Son Heung-Min scored a brilliant hat-trick and Janssen scored off the bench as Tottenham breezed past against Millwall winning 6-0.
With reports from Telegraph fearing that Kane could miss up to seven weeks, Janssen’s goal would have been a big boost for Mauricio Pochettino and the player himself and the gaffer will be hoping to continue to score goals.
There is no question about Vincent Janssen’s talent and it was always a matter of time before the Dutchman re-discovered his goal scoring touch.
Hopefully, from here, it is a way up for Janssen and Tottenham, with the fantastic Harry Kane out injured.
