Tottenham youngster Harry Winks is reportedly being considered by the Spanish FA to make him represent Spain National Team instead of England as the youngster is yet to decide on which country he would represent at the international level.
Harry Winks is of a Spanish descent through his grandparents. He was born and raised in Hemel Hempstead and was educated at the Cavendish School.
Since his grandparents are of Spanish origin, Spain are seemingly looking at the prospect of snapping Harry Winks away from the grabs of English FA. Winks has represented England at all the youth levels up to U-21 and made his U-21 debut on 14 November 2016 where he started in England’s friendly 3–2 defeat to France.
The interest from Spain will send alarm bells ringing at the FA who have been interested themselves at seeing if they could tie down British-based players.
Harry Winks has been brilliant for Tottenham this season and has grown in stature at the club. The youth product of Spurs only recently signed a long-term contract with the club.
Though there are only less possibilities of Winks representing the Spain National Team, it will need some deep pondering from Winks himself before choosing his national team. Winks is the next biggest talent at the White Hart Lane and is highly rated by his manager and fellow players.
Choosing Spain over England would be suicidal for Winks. Spain is always well regarded for the quality central midfielders they produce and the likes of Xabi Alonso, Xavi Hernandez and Andre Iniesta have all been a joy to watch when they’re on the pitch.
On the other hand, the English way of playing football is completely different to that of Spain and Winks is an English product through and through, having been born and raised in England all his life.
It would be wise for him to compete with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson rather than competing with Isco, Koke and Iniesta.
