Tottenham Look To Seal Permanent Deal For 22-year Old Spaniard In The Summer

Pau Lopez spent a season on loan at Tottenham

Tottenham could be looking to sign their on-loan goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a permanent basis according to the latest reports from Spain. The 22-year-old goalie had joined the London side from Espanyol at the start of the season and even though he has not made an appearance for the Lilywhites, it is claimed that Spurs want him in the side next season as well.

Spurs have to pay a fee of £6m should they want to keep hold of the Spanish youngster and are looking to bring the price down, but Espanyol know they have Spurs in a tight spot and are holding out for the entire amount.

A high ranked official at the La Liga club was quoted as saying:

“I know that Pau Lopez is happy, we do not hear from Tottenham; They know what they have to do, they have to pay seven million [Euros] and if so he will not be an Espanyol player. The option will not be lowered.”

While Tottenham could do with another quality goalkeeper, as they already have Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris in their side, Espanyol also need to close a deal for another Lopez, it seems.

The Barcelona-based side have Diego Lopez on loan at the club from AC Milan and are looking to make this signing a permanent one as well. It is believed that the money from the sale to Spurs would help complete the move for Diego Lopez, who does have a great record while playing in the Spanish league.

The signing of Lopez does seem to put up a few questions on the future of Vorm, who has made a handful of appearances for the London club but the loanee could be the player for the future at Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Tottenham academy coach lauds Pau Lopez for his brilliant performance in the reserves game against Reading recently.

“Pau made clean, technical saves that he made look easier than they were and in the second half, he was probably our most competent player.” Ehiogu told the club’s official website.

The youngster’s move to Spurs could be done a lot quicker than the summer according to Spanish paper Sport as they claim that the La Liga side are looking to closing the deal for Diego Lopez quickly, which does mean that Tottenham will have Lopez on a permanent deal next season.

Lopez does have a bright future ahead of him and with Mauricio Pochettino leading Tottenham; the youngster will get a number of chances to prove his ability next season.
