Everton star Romelu Lukaku has spoken about Harry Kane and their race for the golden boot as the news broke out that the Belgian will not be extending his contract with Everton. Lukaku admitted that he felt sad for Harry Kane and Tottenham about the English striker’s injury and also said that he has nothing to learn from Kane.
Lukaku is the favourite to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot and when asked whether the achievement will be diminished with his rival Harry Kane not playing, he said:
“I’m sad he is injured,’ Lukaku began. ‘Everyone wants to see top players in the league and it’s sad for Tottenham and him. I hope he gets better and becomes stronger than he is now. He is a good player.”
He was also asked if he had anything to learn from the extremely brilliant Harry Kane. The response was as unexpected as it was ruthless. He said:
“I don’t look at other players if they aren’t going to teach me anything. If I have the feeling you aren’t going to teach me something, why should I look at you? That’s the thing I have. I’m focused on Everton and what I am doing.”
When asked which players he learns from, Lukaku replied:
“Suarez, Lewandowski, Benzema, Cavani. I’m not looking at the rest. No chance. I watch what they do in certain moments and I think ‘that’s interesting’. How close am I to them? I’m close. I’m one of the best strikers in the Premier League, 100 per cent.”
“If I don’t say I am one of the best, I’m shooting myself in the head. Can I be one of the best in the world? Definitely. But to do that, you need the platform to show yourself. Then you are talking about Champions League and whatever types of games.”
Lukaku and Kane have both scored 19 goals so far in the league and were both in the hot seat to grab the Premier League Golden Boot. Kane initially missed a few games in the season as he was nursing his ankle injury and that gave Lukaku a headstart.
However, the ever impressive Harry Kane has managed to catch up with the Belgian and has levelled things up. Kane has played only 22 games in the league this season, while Lukaku has played 26 games and almost 500 minutes more than Harry Kane.
The fact that Kane has scored more goals in less number of games probably suggests one thing – that Lukaku can actually learn how to score at a quick rate like Harry Kane.
