Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has made bold claims about top-four prediction in the Premier League. He believes that Manchester United and Arsenal will miss out on a top-four spot and has warned Tottenham saying they just got away with it against Southampton, after the North Londoners beat the Saints 2-1 at the White Hart Lane.
He also admitted that things can change over the next 10 games, but based on current form, it is going to be Arsenal and Manchester United who would miss out on top-4. He said:
“Tottenham got away with it without Harry Kane. They have got to get him back sooner or later or they will risk not making the top four.
“The two teams we saw today the managers will be saying, if only we can play like that between now and the end of the season. Things can change over nine or 10 games but right now I will say United and Arsenal won’t make it.”
Tottenham have been brilliant this season but sit 10 points behind Chelsea, who are on top of the table. They will be hoping that Chelsea go through a blip in form but it seems highly unlikely as the Blues have almost finished playing all the top sides. The way they are playing, it looks highly improbable.
However, Tottenham can take heart from finishing 2nd as it would be their highest league finish in many, many years. It would also serve as the indicator of the shifting powers in North London, if they manage to finish above local rivals Arsenal, after coming ever so close last season.
This finally looks like the season for Spurs to get one over their bitter rivals and the odds are looking good. If they manage to finish above Arsenal, it will really be such a huge boost of confidence and will mark as the emergence of Tottenham from under the shadows of their neighbours.
If Spurs manage to maintain their current form and beat Arsenal when they visit the White Hart Lane, then finally, it might be time for some fireworks. Spurs have been phenomenal at home, having not lost even a single game so far this season. They have accumulated 41 points from 15 games and the stats look insane.
Hence, it will not be easy for Arsenal to get one over Spurs at White Hart Lane and hence, the Tottenham faithful can finally believe that this year is going to be their year in terms of rivalry.
The title challenge? It will eventually get stronger.
