Tottenham Ready To Show The Door And Complete Deal For £17 million Even If It Is A Big Loss

Moussa Sissoko of Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Sissoko could be set for a swift exit from White Hart Lane, if reports are to be believed. The former Newcastle midfielder came in for a hefty £30 million in the summer on transfer deadline day. However, he has been regarded as a panic signing by the supporters for quite a while. It is not a surprise that Sissoko has failed to settle into a team which prefers playing in an attractive style rather than in a combative way, which suits the midfielder much more. Sissoko has featured in only 17 league matches this season, and he has not been able to start a game in the league since December.

Sissoko has completed 90 minutes of action only once in the last 10 games. He has often been introduced as a late substitute, while Pochettino has also prefer utilizing him in competitions like the FA Cup and Europa League, which has had a lower preference. Sissoko is facing tough competition for places at White Hart Lane. The incredible progress made by Dele Alli shows no signs of slowing down, while Christian Eriksen has also bounced back from a disappointing few months in the team.

Spurs have been able to keep their presence in the top two places, despite stiff competition in the league ahead of the teams like Manchester City and United – clubs which are believed to have greater squad strength than Spurs.

French newspaper L’Equipe says that Tottenham have been so disappointed with Sissoko’s output that they would even consider selling the player for around £17 million. The club are aware that they cannot demand the same £30 million paid to Newcastle a year ago. Sissoko has featured very little in the league and he is yet to score in the 17 games. His only contribution in these matches have been four assists. Towards the end of 2016, there were signs of brilliance from the 27-year-old, but he has been unable to settle into the first-team due to various reasons.

It is believed that all parties are keen on a fresh start with Tottenham already looking at various transfer targets to bring in the summer. Even though a winger is not a direct replacement for Sissoko, Tottenham have been showing interest in AC Milan winger Suso.
