Tottenham are reportedly concerned about the future of defender Danny Rose at White Hart Lane. Even though the England international only recently committed his future with the London outfit, there is growing rumours about the possibility of Manchester City coming in with a record offer for a left back in the summer.
City paid £47.5 million for Everton defender John Stones, who is seen as one of the key signings made by Pep Guardiola. It is believed that City are ready to make a £50 million offer for Rose (h/t Manchester Evening News), who is on the verge of claiming the position left vacant for several years following the departure of Ashley Cole for the English National Team.
The City manager recently claimed that he would like to add more English players to his first-team, although it was becoming more difficult due to the huge transfer fees requested by clubs to let English players leave. This combined with City being very keen on revamping the entire squad with young players has made Rose as one of the key targets for the summer window. Even though it has been a disappointing first campaign under Guardiola, the club are ready to back the former Barcelona manager with even larger funds in the coming summer.
City are believed to have received positive signs from Rose’s camp. Any player would relish the prospect of playing under Guardiola and Rose will especially the appreciate the ability to start winning titles straight away. Even though Tottenham have made a huge improvement in the last two years under Mauricio Pochettino, lack of expenditure in the transfer market could come to haunt the club in the coming campaigns – especially when it comes to winning major honours. For the moment, the club are overjoyed at the possibility of a second consecutive finish in the Premier league top four.
A number of defenders are set to leave the Etihad stadium in the summer. Former Arsenal defenders Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna will be among them while Pablo Zabaleta is also a major contender to leave. Guardiola is understood to be not happy with Aleksandar Kolarov either. While this calls for an extensive revamp of the defence, Guardiola is understood to favour more English players in his backline, as the Spaniard believes that it would help get the best out of Stones.
In response, Spurs are reportedly looking at the possibility of signing Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, who is out of favour under Jose Mourinho.
