Tottenham Star Could Have Played His Last Game For The Club – Hip Surgery Leaves Him Out For The Rest Of The Season

Erik Lamela of Tottenham

Erik Lamela’s future at Tottenham has been thrown into a major doubt after he has been ruled out for the rest of the season with yet another injury. Lamela could have possibly played the final game of his Tottenham career as he requires a hip surgery. The winger has been heavily linked with a move back to Italian football in the last few months. He has not played for Tottenham since October, and he has been spotted several times in Rome. Manager Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed those sightings as little cause for concern, as Lamela was seeing a specialist in Rome in order to overcome his hip injury.

Now, it is learnt that the player may miss the rest of the season. He may have effectively brought an end to his career at White Hart Lane, as Spurs have been linked with several wingers in the last few months. The club are concerned about the longevity of the £30 million signing, who was one of the best players at the club last season.

However, he has been angling for a move back to Italian football ever since he came to the club in 2014. After initially struggling to establish himself in the Premier league, Lamela managed 11 goals in 44 appearances last season. This season, however, he has managed to feature in only nine league matches and has scored one goal.

A few weeks ago, rumours about Lamela possibly departing the club emerged. It appears that Spurs’ stance regarding the player has changed dramatically in the last few months. Unable to get the player back from the treatment table, Pochettino has already started looking at other options. The lack of commitment shown by Lamela – especially at a time when Spurs need as much quality is possible in order to finish in the top four – has been one of the deterrent factors.

Lamela started his European football adventure with Roma and it is not surprising that he is angling for a move back to the Italian capital. Such a move would see him get involved in the title race for the Italian Serie A, as Roma have been one of the few challengers for Juventus in the last few years. The club are second in the Italian Serie A and are certain to continue their excellent run in the Champions League qualification next season.
