Tottenham target Wilfried Zaha is set to be given a bumper £110,000-a-week package to keep him at Crystal Palace, according to the Sun. The Eagles want to keep the Ivory Coast international at the club for as long as they can and the package sees him match that of the highest paid player, Christian Benteke.
Zaha has been the best player for Sam Allardyce this season as he looks to keep the London club in the Premier League next season. The former Manchester United winger was at his best against Chelsea at the Bridge as he scored one goal and assisted the winner.
The 24-year-old has scored six goals and provided nine assists this season and this is just one reason why a raft of clubs are looking to sign him up next season. Reports also claim that there is no proper buy-out clause in the current contract for Zaha and that could start a bidding war in the summer.
“We would love to keep Wilfried, we will sit down and talk to him as soon as we’re safe and I’m very hopeful of doing so,” chairman Steve Parish told BBC 5 Live, when asked about the rumours of Zaha leaving.
Palace can’t be thinking of Premier League safety at the moment as they are just four points above the relegation places.
Tottenham had bid £12 million to sign the former England international in the summer and are expected to return with another bigger bid in the upcoming summer window. Zaha would be a decent addition to the side and under Mauricio Pochettino; he could certainly reach his potential.
The problem would be the fact that Zaha struggled when he made a big money move to Manchester United a few years ago. He was subsequently sent back to Palace, where he has gotten his mojo back.
Tottenham would need more squad depth next season as they should be playing in the Champions League next season and would want to do better than what they did this time around. Zaha could be the perfect replacement for Moussa Sissoko and only time will tell if this deal does go through.
