Tottenham Join Liverpool And London Rivals In Chase Of £30m English Defender

published :

Tottenham are set to join a host of other clubs looking to sign Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson at the end of the season. The 24-year-old defender has been one of the few bright spots for the side struggling in the Premier League and certainly is set for an extended stay in the Premier League.

Boro might be performing poorly in the league and are more or less set to return to the Championship after failing to win a game since December 2016.

Gibson’s performances certainly have been much better and it isn’t just Tottenham that is looking to sign the English centre-back at the end of the season. Reports claim that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have an eye for the defender and with Boro set to be relegated; Gibson could have a few choices to pick at the start of next season.

The 24-year-old even got a chance with the senior England side as he played in the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania and did a pretty decent job for the Three Lions.

It is being reported that Chelsea are leading the race to sign Gibson and are willing to stump up around £30 million to sign the English defender. Antonio Conte sees Gibson as a great option to have as both Gary Cahill and David Luiz aren’t getting any younger and John Terry is certain to end his time at the Bridge this season.

Tottenham however, could do with the defender that has a lot of potential and experience. The London club have had to deal with injuries to Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld this season while Kevin Wimmer and Eric Dier haven’t looked all that comfortable in the centre of the defence.

Gibson would also be a great option should Tottenham continue playing with their three man defence and with Pochettino at the helm, the defender should get better at the club.

It will be interesting to see just how Tottenham deal with this rumour. Gibson is a quality player and should get a move to a bigger club but Spurs have to be careful of not overspending on any player now thanks to their move to a new stadium soon.
