Tottenham have had enough of their big money signing Vincent Janssen and are planning to replace the Dutch striker with Andre Gray of Burnley.
The 25-year-old might not be the biggest name when it comes to Premier League strikers but his return of nine goals and two assists this season certainly is better than that of Janssen.
The Mirror claims that Tottenham are set to cut their losses and offload the Dutch striker in the summer. Gray might not be the player that everyone would expect to be signed from Spurs but his ability to get vital goals is certainly reasoned enough for any club to sign the Englishman.
Another reason why Spurs could be looking to sign the £8.50m striker is the fact that he only has 12 months remaining in his contract next summer and the club could sign him up on the cheap. Burnley too might not stand in the way of the striker moving to a bigger club.
Tottenham need someone who can come up with the goods when Harry Kane is injured, and Janssen has failed in his attempts to do that. The Dutch striker has netted just once all season in the Premier League.
Son Heung-Min has taken up the mantle of scoring the goals, along with Dele Alli in the absence of Kane and with Champions League football returning to the club next season, Mauricio Pochettino would want another option to have on the bench.
Tottenham have to be careful with their summer spending from next season as they finance a move to a new stadium and they cannot afford players that don’t click at the club. Janssen is just one player that needs to be replaced with Moussa Sissoko being the other attack minded player on the chopping block.
Gray would certainly do a better job than the pair but it is tough to say if he would be a success at Tottenham next season.
