Max Meyer is one of the hottest properties to come out from the Bundesliga in recent years. The German league does have a history of producing great talent and the Schalke midfielder is destined for great things in the future.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a host of clubs are interested in signing the 21-year-old in the coming transfer window. Meyer would only have 12 months left on his contract come the start of next season.

Meyer had claimed that he was happy at Schalke and it was presumed that he would be signing a new contract to remain with the Royal Blues. But that doesn’t look likely now as sporting director Christian Heidel has claimed that the German youngster hasn’t yet penned a new contract at the club.

Heidel was quoted by talkSPORT while speaking to the Bild:

“At the moment it does not make any sense to think about it.

“Max has to convince the coach that he belongs in the starting 11.”

That certainly will be great news for Tottenham as they have been one of the clubs interested in the midfielder. Meyer might not have had one of his most productive seasons this time around as he has scored just one goal and provided one assist in the Bundesliga from 25 games.

Tottenham do need some creativity in the middle of the park and Meyer could fulfil his potential at the club under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino. Meyer has also been linked with a move to Liverpool and with Jurgen Klopp’s history of dealing with the German players, that deal could also take place.

The German youngster does have a big decision ahead of him and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he does decide to move to gain some valuable experience. Tottenham is a club that can match his needs of Champions League football and a great manager, and only time will tell if the deal does get done.
