Tottenham Hotspur are set to raid Lyon for one of their brightest players from the season and this time we aren’t talking about Alexandre Lacazette. L’Equipe (subscription required) claims that the London club wants to sign 22-year-old Corentin Tolisso but will have to spend big money to bring the Frenchman to the club.
The report claims that the French club want at least €45 million for the midfielder and that certainly would test the waters when it comes to the budget that Spurs have for the summer.
Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy will already be planning for next season, even if we do win the Premier League this time around. The 22-year-old midfielder started his career at Lyon in a deeper role but this time around he has been pushed up a bit in midfield and has scored 14 goals in all competitions.
Tottenham do have a number of quality players in the midfield but Tolisso should add some spark in a side that is already brimming with youthful talent. Lyon have enjoyed a decent season thanks to their youngsters and Tolisso has been one of their stars from this season.
There is a caveat when it comes to the amount that Tottenham would have to pay for his signature. The Premier League club have splashed money such as the €45 million on other players and that hasn’t worked all that well for Pochettino or Levy.
They could stump up the cash this time around by selling off Moussa Sissoko and that would also open up a slot in the first team as well. The Frenchman has had a poor season this time around and with Vincent Janssen seemingly grinding it out for goals, the former Newcastle man could be the first one to leave the club in the summer.
Tolisso can play in a number of positions and the fact that he is young and has time to develop could be the reason why Spurs want to sign him up.
