Rumours continue to grow around Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal, but that does not appear to have prevented the club from planning for the future. Reports suggested that Arsenal have been in advanced negotiations for Schalke’s Sead Kolasinac. The left back has been in negotiations with Everton over the last few weeks, but Arsenal entered into the picture. Now, Tottenham have become the favourites to sign the 23-year-old ahead of the North London rivals, according to The Daily Star. His contract runs out in the summer and he will be available on a free, thus making him an extremely attractive proposition.

Kolasinac has been at Schalke since 2012 after having signed from Stuttgart. He has been their first choice left back in the last few years. In recent times, however, his performances have improved substantially. Kolasinac has scored four goals in his last 60 appearances for Schalke. Both Arsenal and Tottenham are extremely well-stocked in terms of the left back positions. A signing like Kolasinac will primarily be to enhance the squad strength.

Arsenal managed to hijack Everton’s deal last summer, but it appears that the gunners do not command the same kind of presence in the transfer market.

Tottenham are ready to give Arsenal a taste of their own medicine by hijacking the deal for Kolasinac. The presence of Danny Rose means that Kolasinac may not get a first-team spot in the team straightaway. He will have to settle for a place on the bench or play in the cup competitions. Yet, this may not worry the player much considering that Spurs are a club on the rise.

One of the reasons for Kolasinac to turn down Arsenal may be the potential lack of Champions League football. Furthermore, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Arsene Wenger.

A Bosnian international, Kolasinac made his debut back in 2013, and he has featured in 23 appearances for the national team. However, he represented the German national team at the youth team levels.
