Former Tottenham star Luka Modric could be on the move again, as it has emerged that Bayern Munich are interested in the possibility of signing him in the summer.
The Croatian is regarded as one of the finest midfielders to have represented Tottenham in the last decade. Yet, it was a major surprise that Spurs decided to sell him for £30 million to Real Madrid in the summer of 2012. Since his transfer, he has been of immense assistance to Madrid in their two Champions League victories among other honours.
Modric may not make the headlines on a consistent basis, but there is little doubt that the Croatian is an extremely important aspect in a team. He manages to keep the team going along nicely. It is no surprise that Carlo Ancelotti, who was the manager who got to fully enjoy the services of Modric in his prime, is intent on working with him again.
Jose Mourinho was the manager responsible for bringing the 31-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu. Yet, he managed him for just one campaign. Besides Harry Redknapp, Modric has played his highest number of games for Ancelotti.
Bayern Munich will have to go to great lengths in order to sign the midfielder, as he only recently signed a new contract with Madrid. This contract does not run out until the summer of 2020. There are two major factors that Bayern Munich can use to persuade Modric to join the club – the presence of Carlo Ancelotti and the possibility of a new challenge.
A highly talented player, Modric has not stayed at the club for too long. His longest stay has been at Madrid after moving to the club in 2012. He spent only four years at White Hart Lane after having arrived as a £16 million signing from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2008.
He has made 20 appearances in the league this season. Modric has scored one goal and created two for his teammates. If he does make the switch to the Allianz Arena, Modric could be taking the route of Xabi Alonso. The Spanish star made his name in the Premier league with Liverpool before excelling at Champions League tournaments with Real Madrid.
