Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has made a stunning claim that Spurs are at the same level as Liverpool and Manchester United, and also says that the Lilywhites are more popular than Chelsea and Arsenal.
While the boss’ claims might invite criticism from the rival fans, it can be said that he is not completely wrong. Tottenham have been the best team among the current top-6 in the Premier League and there is no doubt. Though Arsenal finished above Tottenham last season, Spurs were the better team last season and it cannot be denied.
This season, Tottenham have challenged Chelsea all the way in the title race. They are just 4 points behind the Blues, however, Chelsea’s easy run of fixtures might aid them in the final few weeks of what has been a two-horse domestic race.
Now that Pochettino has claimed that they are not lesser to any of the other big teams in the league, he surely makes sense.
“I would love to be here for as long as possible because it’s a club with history, a club that is the most popular in London, more than Arsenal and Chelsea. I’m delighted here. Tottenham is a historic club at the same level as Manchester United and Liverpool.”
“Three years ago when I started this project, the idea was to reduce the difference between us and the top four. We are ahead of our project. When you analyse the last two seasons, Tottenham has been the most consistent team in the Premier League. We have achieved more points than any other team the last two seasons.”
His comments clearly show the kind of mentality that is prevailing at White Hart Lane right now and this should certainly excite the Tottenham faithful, despite the heavy loss in the FA Cup.
Pochettino looks well on course to achieving his targets and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be confident about his work. If he continues the kind of work that he is currently doing, Tottenham could well be in the same bracket as some of the best teams in Europe, never mind England.
