North London Derby – Tottenham Captain Infuses Positivity Ahead Of Arsenal Clash

Tottenham Captain Hugo Lloris has made a strong claim that the FA Cup loss at the hands of Chelsea is a good sign as Spurs did manage to put on a fight despite going down.

Spurs suffered a painful 4-2 loss against league leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup, despite dominating large phases of the game. Chelsea took the lead through a wonderful free-kick from Willian, but Tottenham responded by equalising through a Harry Kane header. Tottenham then began dominating the game as Chelsea struggled to keep the Lilywhites quiet. But a counter attack from the Blues saw Spurs track back, with Son Heung-min conceding a silly penalty as he slid in too early for Moses to not capitalise on it. The Chelsea man went down and claimed the penalty, which was converted by Willian.

Spurs had conceded against the run of play. Somehow, a moment of brilliance from Eriksen and Alli saw Spurs draw level again, only for Hazard to score Chelsea’s 3rd against the run of play once again. A Nemanja Matic wonder goal literally took the game away from Tottenham and left the whole Spurs fans disappointed.

However, the club captain is not ready to look at the defeat in a negative way and has said that it is important to hold one’s identity intact, whether it is a loss or a win. He seems to make sense here.

Lloris said: “Chelsea, they are used to winning trophies. It’s a winning team. And maybe they have more experience than us. But we try to make a good balance. It’s my fifth season for Tottenham. And I can see the team is enjoying to fight and to compete against the best teams.”

“On Saturday, we all took the responsibility together. You can win, you can lose, but the most important thing is to do it with your identity. Especially, in a great moment in football, like a semi-final of an FA Cup, you can lose your focus, lose your ability, you cannot play in the way that you’re used to playing. But it was not the case on Saturday. That’s why we have to keep our chins up. We made a good performance. And then it is about details.”

These words coming from the Captain himself sound quite positive and it shows that the team are refusing to give up. This is important because we still have a good chance at the league title, despite trailing Chelsea by 4 points.

Of course, Chelsea have an easier run of fixtures, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will walk away with the title. Chelsea’s form in the last few weeks has been on the decline and they lost to Crystal Palace and Manchester United, before managing to beat us in the FA Cup semi-final.

With this kind of mentality, there is still hope for Tottenham to win the title and let’s see how the boys respond when they take on Arsenal this coming weekend.

It’s game on!
