£70,000-a-week Defender Held Talks With Mauricio Pochettino – Manchester United And Manchester City Are Also Keen

Tottenham defender Kyle Walker has held talks with boss Mauricio Pochettino regarding his future at the club amidst interest from Manchester City and Manchester United, according to reports from Evening Standard.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City have been linked with Kyle Walker and since he is an English International, he would add massive value to any English team that he joins. Kyle signed a long-term contract with the club in September, which runs until 2021.

While he seems to understand his importance to Tottenham Hotspur, he is also aware of the Manchester clubs’ interest.

Tottenham have made some rapid progress in the last two seasons and have become strong title contenders. Spurs are 4 points behind Chelsea in the league and it looks like the only possible chance of silverware for the Lilywhites.

Walker has flourished under Pochettino and has adapted to his new role in a 3-4-2-1 set-up at White Hart Lane. In Tottenham’s heartbreaking loss in the Europa League at the hands of KAA Gent, Walker was the only shining star for Spurs. Without a doubt, his value to the team is immense.

Walker described Tottenham as his second home when he signed the contract worth £70,000 and said,

“It’s a great honour, I want to say a big thank you to the chairman and the manager for putting their faith in me.

“It’s been a long stay here but a very enjoyable one. I’m fully enjoying it. It’s like my second home now and I’m happy to commit my future to Tottenham Hotspur.”

Walker has managed to establish himself as one of the finest full-backs in the league and it wouldn’t be wrong to call him the best right-back in England right now. He is now English national team’s first choice right-back and is way ahead of his competitors.

Our Verdict

The news doesn’t really appeal because the 26-year old only signed an extension in September last year.

Tottenham would only go on to improve and strengthen further and any talks of a player leaving the club would surely be put out by Pochettino. There is no necessity whatsoever to let go of the players in the summer as there is a lot of positivity around White Hart Lane despite the painful exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Chelsea.

It is time for Tottenham players to put their head down and work towards catching Chelsea up in the league table, instead of holding talks about their futures.

Let’s believe that the news isn’t true and continue to dream of winning the league title.
