Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Chairman Daniel Levy has told him that the club will only sell those players who they intend to sell. This is a huge statement considering the speculations that are going on regarding the future of a lot of players in the team.

However, the manager has now made it clear that only certain players will leave the club in the summer. The club have sold their star players in the past, including some big names like Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick. But now it looks like this will not happen.

Pochettino was quoted by the Daily Mail saying;

“I think because we are doing good things, the clubs with a lot of potential are focused on our players, on our talented players, “But it is important, I told you, because my relationship with Daniel Levy is so close so far – you know the relationship between chairman and manager can change in a moment!”

“But the good thing is we have the plan to try to improve and we will deliver it when we finish the season. The players that we want to keep, we will keep, because he said to me ‘we don’t need money’. If we sell some players it is because we want to sell some players. We will sell players because of the players we want to sign. For our fans, it is so clear that all the decisions we take are for the reason to try to improve the team, to try to be more competitive next season.”

It would be important for us to keep hold of the players as the club looks to be in great shape. The core team is strong, a lot of English talent is there within and the manager seems to be determined to achieve big things with the club.

With this scenario, it would be foolish on Levy’s part to sell star players. This decision is commendable considering that the stadium construction is on its course as well. It would have been tempting to sell the players and make some money to cope up with the debts that would be incurred by the stadium move.

But it looks like out chairman is clear with his plans and it is a welcome sign.
