Tottenham Set To Offer More Than £50,000-a-week Contract For Defender To Derail Inter Milan’s Transfer Plans

Tottenham have been securing the future of their current stars by getting them onto lucrative contracts. The London club have gotten the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris onto long-term deals and another player is set to sign a similar contract extension.

Having formed a great partnership with Jan Vertonghen at the back of the Spurs defence, Alderweireld has been looking to get a major pay-rise to remain at the White Hart Lane club.

The Daily Mirror claims that the London club are going to increase the weekly wage of the Belgian centre-back, which is rumoured to be close to a £50,000-a-week deal. This is being done to ensure that Alderweireld stays at the club and isn’t tempted to join Inter Milan.

The Serie A club have been taken over by a Chinese consortium and are looking to revamp their squad for next season. The Milanese club want to bring back their glory days and if Tottenham cannot close a deal with Alderweireld, the Belgian could end up leaving the club.

Spurs already pay the likes of Kane and Lloris close to £100,000 a week and that is the reported amount that Alderweireld is looking at.

The 28-year-old certainly is one of the best defenders in the league and is part of the stingiest defence in the country as well.

Mauricio Pochettino had spoken about keeping his best players in the side recently and Toby fits that bill to a tee. The Belgian has played in 24 Premier League games this season and had it not been for a few injuries, he would have played a lot more minutes.

The former Ajax man is one of the building blocks for Tottenham and even though there is a reported £25 million release clause that gets activated in 2019, Tottenham should sign him up for a lot longer and for a larger release clause.
