Tottenham have had a great season this time around and even if they miss out on the Premier League title there isn’t a lot wrong with their current starting XI. The major problem for the side has been the lack of squad depth or players who can come in and do a great job off the bench or when someone is injured.
We have seen issues with Moussa Sissoko, Kevin Wimmer and Vincent Janssen this season but that doesn’t seem to faze Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to bring Ross Barkley to the team in the summer.
There were rumours linking the Englishman to Tottenham in the winter window and now it seems the situation is rapidly heading for a conclusion. The Everton man is not willing to sign a new deal at the club and Koeman has once again delivered an ultimatum to Barkley – either sign a new contract or be sold.
*Ronald Koeman had earlier hinted that if Barkley didn’t sign a new deal he would be sold in the summer and this will be great news for the London club.
Barkley has had an off and on season where he has shown glimpses of his brilliance and he would be looking to be more consistent on the pitch. The 23-year-old has scored only four times in the Premier League but he does have eight assists to his name.
There were rumours suggesting that Pochettino would want to swap Sissoko for Barkley and that the Everton manager was happy to accept the deal. That could take place in the summer as Sissoko has struggled to adapt to life under Pochettino. Barkley could certainly add quality to the side but his inconsistency is the major issue that the Argentine manager would have to deal with.
Pochettino has to be careful with the money he spends as some of his buys haven’t clicked but this deal does seem to be pretty close to being done in the summer, unless something drastic occurs.
