Ian Wright certainly likes to have a pop at Tottenham’s expense and the former Arsenal forward has now claimed that the Gunners should try to sign Dele Alli.
Alli has been in sensational form this season and prior to the North London derby the Englishman had scored 16 goals and had provided five assists in the Premier League. It is this kind of form which has helped Tottenham rise up the ranks in the league as they lie in second place.
The former MK Dons man has been growing from strength to strength while playing under Mauricio Pochettino and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Manchester City but speaking to BT Sport (h/t Daily Start), Wright stated that he would like Arsenal to lodge a bid for Alli.
“I would say Dele Alli – wind up them lot across the road! I love [Robert] Lewandowski, or [Kylian] Mbappe.”
Wright also added that the £50,000-a-week midfielder could get better if he has the right set of players with him in the side.
“In that position what he [Alli] plays, to go forward as well and score those goals, and in big games. If he has the right team around him, he’s going to be magnificent.”
While Wright would want Alli in the team, much like every other Premier League side, this does seem highly unlikely to take place at the moment. Tottenham are in a great position when compared to Arsenal and should get better next season too.
Alli too has been having a wonderful time since the start of last season and the PFA Young Player of the Year also has a long-term contract at the London club.
Spurs would be looking to finish the season on a high as they look to chase down Chelsea at the top of the table but even if that does not take place, Alli has had a great season and this does form a great launchpad for next season.
