Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was all joy after Spurs’ incredible 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Sunday. It was a really significant result as the Lilywhites continued their impressive run and maintained pressure on Chelsea in the title race.

The gap remains at 4 points and with 4 games left to be played in the season and it is still possible for Tottenham to overtake Chelsea in the title race.

A Dele Alli beauty and a Harry Kane penalty were enough for Tottenham to kill a pathetic Arsenal side who have been quite disappointing this season. The win ensured that Tottenham finished above Arsenal for the first time since 1995 and this would be the first time that Arsene Wenger would be finishing below Tottenham ever.

Pochettino was delighted with the win but he refused to get carried away and insisted that the focus still remains on closing the gap on Chelsea and finishing the season as Premier League Champions.

Though it wouldn’t be easy, owing to the fixtures list, where Spurs still have to face Manchester United, it is not something impossible. It would be ridiculous to imagine the most consistent team in the league losing to a team like the current Manchester United side, who have been highly inconsistent with their performances this season.

They are struggling at 5th place in the table and are fighting hard to finish in the top-4. However, anything could happen in a game of football and it is not safe to take things for granted. It would be fair to say that Tottenham are completely capable of handling the tough fixture list and make Chelsea sweat until the final 2 games of the season.

Pochettino said while speaking to BBC Sport said;

“To be above Arsenal for the first time in 22 years is fantastic for our fans. it is fantastic for us too, but we want to win the title. I can understand our fans being excited about finishing above Arsenal, but I don’t feel the same because for me it is about trying to win the title.”

“It is so important now to try and win trophies, that is our aim. I think still we are in the race. It’s true that it will be difficult but we will see what happens.”

The Argentine further added;

“We are in the race and the gap is back to four points,

“We have to be focused now. We have another big game against West Ham on Friday, another difficult derby.

“That could be a chance to put psychological pressure on Chelsea. We play before them and, if we win, we will see what happens when Chelsea play Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday.”

Tottenham next face West Ham United in the league and Bilic’s side are quite dangerous and Spurs cannot afford to take their foot off the gas.
